Most of you are probably keyed in to No Shave November and Movember by now. Not ringing a bell? It’s simple. As the colder months loom, it’s only natural that men make the choice to stop shaving and opt for a burly (warm) beard. In recent years, this has morphed into a ‘No Shave November’/ ‘Movember’ phenomenon of sorts, taking a philanthropic turn with several organizations using the no-shave challenge to benefit a great cause; more specifically, cancer. The challenges aim to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, while ultimately reducing the number of preventative deaths. It also encourages people to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Movember focuses on – you guessed it – mustaches. For the entire month of November, men are challenged to grow and groom a mustache. No beards, no goatees, just a solid ‘stache. The goal is to then use the conversation starter to incite meaningful discussions about men’s health and to raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health. Ultimately, the goal is to change the face of men’s health through increase awareness.
No-Shave November is a unique way to raise awareness for different types of cancer. The endgame here is to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society while growing full beards all month long. Most men will donate the money you would usually spend on shaving and grooming for a month to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the difficult battle.
1.) You must be clean shaved on November 1st
2.) You may not touch a razor until December 1st
3.) Pictures are required to be taken at the end of the month and posted online so they can be compared. (If you want.)
If you would like to get involved, please donate to this great cause!
(Some of our own are partaking in this as well, so make sure to donate to our manly team:D3MountainDewds).
